Poetry Shelf Monday Poem: Amy Marguerite’s ‘forecasting hindsight’

forecasting hindsight

a swarm of wasps took your veil
& hissed it down the overbridge
under which you were once
a temporary thing spinning your
guileless gossamer & spitting your
lies vermillion like an accidental
cayenne pepper paprika situation

you were so committed then
to prising other anatomies apart
savouring their surrender as though
they were actually giving themselves up
as if you weren’t just undressing
a nostalgic aroma so as to feel a bit
new
